In the spirit of my “Do it Yourself” theme for this Christmas, I have decided to go ahead and get busy in the kitchen and make some cookies. I have been scouring my cookbooks as well as the Food Network site for some interesting recipes. I think I have about 4 at this point. All are things I have never made before, so this weekend will be the test batches to see how well they turn out. Plus I am finally going to dust off my Pampered Chef cookie press that I have had for years and never even taken out of the box.
I have decided to give them out to my friends here in town. If things go well, I may decide to bake more once I get back to my Dad’s for Christmas. It all depends on time and energy. And, speaking of getting to Dad’s, I have decided to take advantage of the travel situation and haul a bunch of stuff home with me. I’m sure my baby sister will be happy to know that I have been going through my closets again and I have plenty of things to unload on her.
In other news, I realized I never mentioned anything about last weekend. Once again I received some last minute notice from Heidi regarding the Limelight Christmas party. To be fair, Heidi didn’t think she was going to be able to attend so she never brought it up to me. Anyway, I of course cleared my calendar immediately (Ha!) and said yes. This year’s soiree took place at a very nice bar and grill on the south side of town. The second floor of this building offers several meeting/banquet rooms and we had one of those.
The party was nice. I think initially I wasn’t all that excited. There are a bunch of new people working there that I didn’t know and I think I just felt a little bored. However, I soldiered on and made it through dinner and then of course was all the drinking. I wasn’t really in the mood for that either, plus there was always the possibility that I was going to have to drive Heidi home. They had a DJ and most of the songs that were playing were Hip Hop. It’s just not my thing. Sure, there are a few of the songs I recognized and didn’t hate, but it was mostly stuff I didn’t know.
I was ready to leave pretty early, but I hung around to make sure Heidi was going to have someone sober to drive her home if I left. I think my wall flower status became a little too obvious in this crowd and I was finally badgered into going out on the dance floor. I decided if I was going out there then I was going to start requesting music that I liked instead. It worked out a little better for me from there. It didn’t hurt that we had a microphone floating around. Once I had that in my hands, I started to enjoy myself more.
Things finally wrapped up after midnight and people were talking about heading out to another bar to keep going. I was done. They hosted the party on a Sunday night, and I had early meetings the next day. Once I knew Heidi was in good hands I headed for home. If I am able to get my hands on one of the pictures, I’ll be sure to post it.
